So, unless you don’t listen to entertainment news, you already know that Lisa Rinna desperately wants to star on the new Melrose Place. She was even outside with a sandwich board over her saying encouraging people to honk their horns if they love Lisa Rinna and want her back on Melrose. Lisa Rinna played Taylor McBride on the original Melrose Place. She moved into the complex with husband, Kyle McBride (played by Rob Estes who now stars on the new 90210 as Harry Wilson). I don’t know how they’d bring Taylor back or why. I like Lisa Rinna, but as Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives. I didn’t like Taylor on Melrose at all.
The Other Vanessa Williams, who played Rhonda Blair in season 1 of Melrose Place, also wants to come back. She said she could envision Rhonda has opened a few aerobics/pilates studios and now has a family. Rhonda could have been a cool character on Melrose, but they never gave her good story. She usually was pushed back to a supporting character. In the end, she met and fell in love with a guy and moved out of the complex. I don’t really know how Rhonda would fit into this new world they’re building, but it could be interesting to see her return after all these years.
Here’s a pic of the new cast:
Filming has begun for the new Melrose Place. Here are some pics from the set from I’m Not Obsessed:
What do you all think? Would you like to see Lisa Rinna or Vanessa Williams return to Melrose? Would they fit in with the new cast?
Recently, at Paley Fest 09, Lauren Conrad and her Hills castmates took the stage and answered questions about the show, what will happen when Lauren leaves the show, and the Heidi Montag / Spencer Pratt wedding this weekend.
First off, the wedding. Heidi and Spencer, as I previously reported, are getting married this weekend…and the filming of the wedding will be the season finale for the current season of The Hills. Who will be attending? Well, Brody Jenner and his girlfriend, Jayde, will be in attendance. Lauren “Lo” Bosworth admitted that she’ll be at the wedding, but without a date (since her invite did not say “and guest”). No word on if Audrina Patridge will attend, and Whitney Port (who left “The Hills” for “The City”) said that she did not receive an invite to the nuptuals. What about Lauren Conrad? Well, Lauren went on record saying that she probably wouldn’t be there. She said it was nice of Heidi and Spencer to invite her, but that they didn’t really expect her to go. However, Brody claimed that he would be sitting next to Lauren and Jayde at the wedding. And I can’t imagine Lo going to the wedding w/o Lauren. So, I’m betting (especially since it’s The Hills season finale and that means it will be Lauren’s final episode of the show) that Lauren will definitely be in attendance. Also, the show asked that Frankie Delgado (Brody’s best friend) be invited to the wedding. The maid of honor will be Heidi’s sister, Holly Montag, and the bridesmaid will be Spencer’s sister, Stephanie Pratt. Perez Hilton and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz will also be in attendance.
Next up, a spoiler we all saw coming…Lauren says that we will see Spencer taking the blame for the Jason Wahler/Lauren Conrad sex tape rumors this season. He fully admits that he’s the one who did it. That should be a fun episode to see.
Exec Producer, Liz Gateley, was asked about the possible Lauren-less 6th Season. Liz said that they are still considering continuing the show, but they want to ensure that there will be enough story to tell. She went on to say that if a 6th season does occur, that she hopes Lauren will watch it and miss being on it so much, that she’d come back for a 7th season.
Brody was asked about the possible 6th season, and he said that he’s afraid that the show might tank w/o Lauren, but that if a 6th season does take place, he will definitely be involved.
Audrina admitted that there will be a lot more drama between her and Justin Bobby this season. To that, I sarcastically say “Wow, can’t wait”.
Whitney, who is currently filming season 2 of “The City”, said that there will be changes in season 2 of “The City” including her possibly leaving DVF (Diane von Furstenberg). Also, as I reported yesterday, it looks like Whitney and Jay have kissed and made up for season 2 as well.
I hope that The Hills sticks around after Lauren leaves. As long as we have some of the cast members return, and then some new cast members, it could still be exciting. I also heard a rumor from an interview that Lo did, that Lauren would be willing to make appearances in the next season, but that she didn’t want to be the star of the show. I personally would also love to see what her former rival, Kristin Cavallari, has been up to. Maybe Kristin could join the cast? Doubtful, but hopeful…
So, for my first blog, I must write about something that is coming up that I’m VERY excited about…the new Melrose Place that’s being developed for The CW.
Now, to start off, I was a HUGE fan of the original 90210 which lead to the spinoff, Melrose Place. That show, to this very day, is one of my fave shows of all time. It was so juicy, and it featured some of my fave TV characters of all time: Sydney (played by Laura Leighton), Kimberly (played by Marcia Cross), Amanda (played by Heather Locklear), Jane (played by Josie Bissett), Michael (played by Thomas Calabro), Jake (played by Grant Show), and Peter (played by Jack Wagner).
Fast forward to 2008, a new 90210 is introduced. While the show is subpar in stories, I’ve LOVED watching it to catch the retuns of Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, and Joe E. Tata. Now we find out that this new 90210 is getting a spinoff…Melrose Place! I’m ecstatic. So, I’ve been trying to keep up on all the casting news, so here is what we know so far…
First off, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz (sis to Jessica Simpson and former star of her own reality show and 7th Heaven) has joined the cast. Many people are complaining about it, but I don’t really understand why. I’m not a fan of her’s, but I wasn’t a fan of half of the original cast prior to the show starting. So, I’m looking forward to see what she’ll offer the new show.
Laura Leighton has signed on to play Sydney Andrews again! This is the MOST exciting news about the new show for me so far, since she was my fave character on the original. I hated it when they killed her off, but I did love that she married Craig (which is my name). Now she’ll be the new owner of the building that all the residents live in, so she’ll be Amanda 2.0. Very cool!
Thomas Calabro has also signed on to play Michael Mancini again! WOO HOO!!!! So far I only see that he’ll be in the pilot, which doesn’t guarantee he’ll be recurring or that we’ll even see him again after the pilot, but still VERY cool news! Maybe Syd is still after Michael.
Heather Locklear will NOT be returning…at least not yet. It has been said that she couldn’t think of a good reason why her character would return. I tend to agree. While I did LOVE Amanda Woodward, I just don’t think she’d fit in with this new 20/30 something crowd unless she were to play someone’s boss at D&D Advertising (but from what I’ve seen and heard about the new cast, I don’t think any of them are working at D&D).
I also hear that the teacher on the new 90210, the one dating Kelly, will be the character that has connections to the new Melrose cast, so that’s where the spinoff will spring from.
I’m definitely excited that we’re getting a new Melrose. My hope is that it will start off much much better than the new 90210 has. (I do hear things will be getting fixed on the new 90210 though, but that’s another blog).
So, what do you all think of the new Melrose? Which original cast members would you like to see make a return?
OK, so here is the cast of the new Melrose Place thus far…
Laura Leighton as Sydney Andrews
Thomas Calabro as Dr. Michael Mancini
Katie Cassidy as Ella Flynn (a PR whiz whose tongue is as sharp as her stilettos)
Shaun Sipos as David Patterson (the grown up son of Jake with the taut abs and thick black book to prove it)
Michael Rady as Jonah Miller (a Kevin Smith wannabe who is obsessed with his movies)
Jessica Lucas as Riley Richmond (a sickly-sweet school teacher who is engaged to Jonah and is drawn to the glamorous lifestyle) –Jessica appeared on this season of the new 90210 as a different character.
Colin Egglesfield as Auggie Kirkpatrick (a hunky hippie, this recovering alcoholic is willing to give everybody the benefit of the doubt)
Stephanie Jacobsen as Lauren Bishop (sort of an anti-Michael, this straight-arrow med student falls on such hard times that she’s forced to pull a Sydney and trade sexual favors for financial ones)
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz as Violet Foster (Though she’s fresh off the turnip truck, this small-town teen already has a worldly-wise m.o.: play the sex kitten till you’re ready to bare your claws)
Already sounds like the storyline possibilities are endless!
