Well, I’ve been meaning to recap the season finale of Gossip Girl all week, but just haven’t had the chance. So, here it is. 🙂
First off, I want EVERY single prime time soap to take note: Watch the season finale of Gossip Girl…That is how you write a season finale! It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
OK, so, the Upper East Side kids are all preparing for their high school graduation. While preparing together, Blair (Leighton Meester) and Serena (Blake Lively) have a conversation where S tells B that Chuck (Ed Westwick) told S that he loves B. B then asks S is she has told Chuck that she and Nate (Chace Crawford) have broken up yet. Serena tells Blair that she has not.
Meanwhile, Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) sees Nate outside of graduation and they catch up. Nate apologizes to Vanessa for how he handled things and the events that lead up to their breakup. She accepts the apology. Nate then invites Vanessa and Dan (Penn Badgley) to his graduation party.
Jenny (Taylor Momsen) and Eric (Connor Paolo) have a conversation about how happy they are that the mean girls are graduating and they wont have to deal with them anymore. As they converse, the mean girls show up and ask Jenny if she’s going to put her name in the running to become Queen B next year. Jenny tells them no, but then they introduce Jenny to Emma Boardman (Stella Maeve). Emma is in the running to become Queen B next year. Emma has also played with the mean girls before, when Blair was forced to babysit Emma and Emma got in all sorts of trouble. Upon seeing Emma, Jenny decides that she really doesn’t have a choice but to run for the title herself. The catch…the girl who comes up with the biggest scoop of gossip by midnight at Nate’s graduation party, gets to become the new queen of Constance Billard.
At graduation, Eleanor (Margaret Colin) and Cyrus (Wallace Shawn) sit behind Rufus (Matthew Settle), Lily (Kelly Rutherford), Jenny, and Eric. Rufus is already uncomfortable that he and Lily are sitting next to eachother, but then Eleanor and Cyrus make it even more uncomfortable by telling Rufus and Lily what a great couple they make.
The graduates all file in and take their seats. As the graduation ceremony begins, all the graduates receive a blast from Gossip Girl (voiced by Kristen Bell) on their cell phones. The blast says:
“Not so fast. You’re not graduating until I give you my diplomas. Mine are labels, and labels stick. Nate Archibald: Class whore. Dan Humphrey: The ultimate insider. Chuck Bass: Coward. Blair Waldorf: Weakling. And as for Serena van der Woodsen, after today, you are officially irrelevant. Congratulations, everyone. You deserve it.”
Afterwards, at brunch, Serena vows to take down Gossip Girl once and for all. She begins trying to figure out how to do so with the help of Blair, Nate, and Chuck. Meanwhile, Rufus apologizes to Lily and they make up. Also, Nate talks to his grandfather and tells his grandfather about his affair with the older married woman last summer. His grandfather is surprised, but promises to protect Nate should the information leak out. Nate then turns around and tells Chuck that he and Blair broke up. Serena then asks Dan and Vanessa for help in taking down Gossip Girl. Dan and Vanessa both turn her down. So, Serena, Blair, Nate, and Chuck start plotting. After naming some people who couldn’t be Gossip Girl, Serena decides to send Gossip Girl a text to see whose cell phone in the room starts ringing. This could determine who Gossip Girl really is. Serena sends the text…and Jonathan’s (Matt Doyle) phone rings. Jonathan is Serena’s brother’s, Eric’s, boyfriend.
That night, Lily heads over to Rufus’ place with some beer and a stash of pot that she found in Chuck’s bedroom. Lily and Rufus proceed to get drunk and high, and he proposes to her. She accepts!!! YAY!!!!
Blair and Eleanor have a heart to heart where Blair tells Eleanor that Chuck has not said “I love you” to her yet. Eleanor tells her daughter not to let Chuck get away with it.
At Nate’s party, a drunk Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang) runs up to Dan to tell him something she always wanted to tell him. However, Serena shows up and Nelly runs off. Aww, Nelly has a crush on Dan!!!
Jenny approaches Blair to tell B that GG knows the scoop about B and Jack. She wants to let B know that she’s going to use this gossip to become the new queen next year. Blair tells Little J that she doesn’t have what it takes to be queen and to shut up. Little J runs over to the mean girls and tells them that her gossip is too good to wait until midnight and she wants to tell them now.
Blair takes Chuck into a bedroom and begins to undress. The two start to make out passionately, and then comes a new blast from Gossip Girl…
“Serena just couldn’t leave well enough alone. Since she had to find out the truth about me, I’m going to tell you the truth about everyone. Every gossip bomb I’ve got is about to drop, and if you’ve got a problem with that, take it up with her. Ever wonder why Miss Carr (Laura Breckenridge) left town? It’s because Dan Humphrey had sex with her during the school play…”
GG keeps going, spilling about Jenny’s PG-13 photo shoot (Nate was there), Dan going to jail, Blair and Jack Bass, and Chuck and Vanessa.
Now the fun begins, as all the kids begin fighting with one another. Jenny didn’t know Dan was in jail, Dan didn’t know that Jenny posed for some naughty photos in front of Nate, Blair didn’t know Chuck slept with Vanessa, and Chuck didn’t know that Blair slept with Jack.
The mean girls want to know what gossip Jenny had…however, GG scooped Jenny, and now Jenny has NOTHING. Chuck takes off after a heated confrontation with Blair, Blair blames Serena for the entire mess, Dan defends Serena and Blair attacks him saying he truly is one of them and that GG was right in calling him the “Ultimate Insider”. In the bathroom, Blair confronts Jenny and tells Little J that once again Chuck didn’t say “I love you”. She tells Little J to use this gossip as her leverage to become queen, however, Little J says she just can’t use it. Blair then tells Jenny that Little J is her queen. It’s a really sweet moment.
Serena is pissed. So, she sends a text to Gossip Girl telling GG to meet her at a bar. Serena is going to find out who this b!tch is! Nate goes with Serena to the bar and they chit chat. They wait for over an hour, and then Dan walks in. Nate wonders if Dan is Gossip Girl, but he says he received a text to meet Serena at the bar…he’s not actually GG. Blair files in next, then Jenny and Eric, and a whole slew of other kids. Once all together, they receive a new text from Gossip Girl saying:
“You wanted to meet Gossip Girl? Well, look around. I’m nothing without you. And while most high school friendships fade, it’s my hope that what happened today will bond you forever. Now that all my secrets are out, you have a clean slate. Until college. Congratulations, I’m coming with you.”
Fast forward one week:
Rufus presents Lily with a real engagement ring. Blair and Serena have made up and Serena is packing to go to Europe for the summer. Nate walks into a coffee shop where Vanessa and Dan are, and asks Vanessa if she’d still be interested in having him join her on the backpacking trip this summer. After some hesitation, Vanessa agrees. Dan strikes up a conversation with some kid and they learn that they’ll both be going to NYU in the fall. The kids introduces himself as Scott (Chris Riggi). As Dan, Nate, and Vanessa leaves, Scott shoots Dan a really diabolical look, but Dan doesn’t see it. Later, Scott makes a phone call to his mother and says he’s in Portland and has met some cool people. He then looks down at a newspaper article he has of Lily and Rufus. Scott is their lovechild!!!!
Blair takes Jenny to the meeting of the mean girls and declares Jenny queen of Constance Billard. The mean girls are really pissed, as they were about to crown Emma with that title. However, once Blair tells them that Little J’s dad is about to marry Lily, making Little J the richest of all of them, they concede, and Jenny begins giving her rules for school next year.
Dan gets a call from Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg). Georgina tells him that the money that Poppy (Tamara Feldman) and Gabrielle (Armie Hammer) stole is back in his account. He wants to know how, but she doesn’t tell him. Georgina tells him that she’ll see him next year, which leaves him confused. They hang up, and we find that Georgina is enrolled at NYU and she is at the student center. She requests a roommate…Blair Waldorf. WOO HOO!!!!
Serena packs up the car to leave for Europe and is greeted by Carter Baizen (Sebastian Stan). Carter has been causing trouble for the gang for 2 years now. He tells her that he has the info she was seeking when she went to Santorini. It’s info on her father and where he is!!! Carter gets in the car with Serena and they head off.
Chuck finds Blair out on the street, gives her a bunch of gifts, and finally says the three words she’s been wanting to hear “I love you”. The two have a VERY romantic moment kissing, giggling, and joking. Fade to black.
The End!
FANTASTIC episode and the fact that it tied up EVERY single story from all season long was AMAZING! My hats off to the writers and I cannot WAIT for next season!
