Hottie o' the Day Logo

Today’s Hottie o’ the Day is none other than former Saved by the Bell star, Mario Lopez.  This guy keeps getting hotter and hotter with age.  Currently, Mario is hosting Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew on MTV.  Enjoy!

WOW!  I’m telling you, I absolutely agree with Randy Jackson’s comments that this is the most talented group by far.  After what I felt was a VERY rough beginning, this group is turning into all stars.

First up was Lil Rounds.  I must admit that I feel so horrible for her getting negative feedback every single week.  In fact, last night, she was the only contestant that received negative feedback from every single judge.  Lil sang Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman”, and I must admit it wasn’t horrible.  However, Lil is the weakest contestant on the show.  I think she should have gone home weeks ago.  It’s ashame b/c she has so much potential, but she just isn’t getting it.  I’m sure she’ll make it in the music industry, and with the right direction, she’ll do really well.

Next up was Kris Allen.  I may be in the minority here, but Kris was my least favorite contestant next to Lil Rounds until last night.  Kris’ performance of “She Works Hard for the Money” (Donna Summer) was AMAZING!!!!  My 2nd favorite performance of the night actually.  I mean, the kid was SPOT ON!  The arrangement, his voice, everything was perfect!  He’d actually be #1 for me if Adam Lambert (my favorite) didn’t also blow his performance out of the park as well.  Randy, Simon, Paula, and Kara all agreed that this was an awesome performance.

Danny Gokey was up next and he sang “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire.  Danny is an amazing singer, and definitely one of my faves in this competition.  In fact, I would love to see him, Adam, and Allison make it to the final 3.  That being said, I wasn’t a HUGE fan of Danny’s last night.  His performance was great, dont’ get me wrong, but it just didn’t stand out like Kris and Adam’s performances did.  Still a good performance though.  🙂

My fave gal (and the only other girl in the competition), Allison Iraheta, was up next.  Man this girl can sing.  She’s AWESOME!  Allison sang “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer.  She changed up the arrangement and slowed it down a bit.  I have to agree with the judges that the arrangement sucked, but Allison sounded amazing as usual.  She looked great too!

Now to my FAVORITE!!!  Adam Lambert…he is just THE BEST!  Such a great singer, and I totally don’t know why he’s in this competition.  Someone should have signed this guy a LONG TIME AGO!  Adam will definitely become a household name and a legend once the show is over.  He’s so talented and his performances just blow me away.  Adam sang “If I Can’t Have You” by the Bee Gees.  Absolutely breathtaking!  Paula Abdul was even teary eyed (though I know this isn’t unusual for her, lol).

This leads us to Matt Giraud.  Matt was saved last week by the judges.  This year American Idol introduced “The Judges’ Save”.  With this new rule, the judges could save anyone they felt got voted off too early up until we reached the bottom 5.  I’m glad that the judges saved Matt b/c I really like him.  Matt totally reminds me of Justin Timberlake, and I think he’ll definitely make a name for himself after the competition.  Interesting note, Matt is from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and I roomed with 2 guys from Kalamazoo while in college.  But, I digress.  Matt sang the Bee Gee’s “Staying Alive”.  The judges all liked him, but seemed to agree that they didn’t like the arrangement that much.  I totally disagree.  I thought Matt did an awesome job and changed it up just enough that it didn’t sound corny.  I really enjoyed his performance.

And finally, Anoop Desai closed the show.  Last night, Anoop would have been in my personal bottom 2.  But I need to make myself clear.  I think that Anoop has a BEAUTIFUL voice.  He just has such a sweet, powerful, and amazing voice.  Now the reason he’s in my bottom 2 nearly every week is because he doesn’t really change up the songs at all.  In fact, he pretty much sings each song exactly the same way it was sung originally.  Now in a competition where all the other contestants are changing up the arrangements of songs and making them “their own”, Anoop hasn’t really done that.  So, while I think he’s AMAZING, I think he’s just not as strong a competitor as the other 5.  I say 5 b/c Lil Rounds does not exhibit the talent or control that Anoop displays week after week.  So, last night Anoop sang Donna Summer’s “Dim the Lights”.  Again, he sounded great, but just not original enough for me.  Still a solid performance though.

Last night’s episode was really awesome!  I really enjoyed all the performances, and I still can’t get over how so many of the contestants turned these disco hits into something that I could imagine hearing on the radio today.  Great job to all the contestants!

So, who do you want to see get voted out tonight?  Because the judges saved Matt last week, 2 contestants will get voted off tonight.  I made it pretty clear that I think those 2 should be Lil and Anoop, but what do you think?  Who do you want to see win Idol this year?
